Hello all Wolverines,
I spent many, many hours with Coach Mike Walden. His goal was always to help any
and every rider become better and reach their potential. A main element of his
coaching was at the track. He always said - get speed first then endurance. All
his riders who wanted to reach the national level trained on the track. His
method only produced 100+ National Champions, several Olympians and three World
Champions.
We built the the track in Bloomer Park to again provide a facility for riders to
get the SPEED needed to win. We now have two riders who have developed the SPEED
necessary to compete at the National level.
Kacey Manderfield's cycling career began at the track. Last year she won two
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS on the track. This last weekend she came in the top 10
among the top women in the world in a race in Pennsylvania. Her plans are to
increase that speed by training at T-Town velodrome this summer - her sponsor is
based there.
Luke Cavender is now racing this weekend at the National Sports Cycling Center
in Minnesota racing on the velodrome. He came in 7th among many of the top track
riders in the US and a few best of the world.
They both got the SPEED and tactics from their time at our track.
So I find it amazing that more Wolverines are not spending time on the track. I
guarantee it will make you faster and a better tactician.
We have bikes so you don't need to spend very much money to get going. We have
coaches to teach you. If it is fear, that is understandable. The track is
banked 44 degrees and the bikes have no brakes. You would be nuts to ride it.
But then how can Wolverine rider Gene Diggs ride 1,500 miles a year on the track
with two bionic knees. Oh ya, Gene is 74 yrs old. He reached a top speed of
almost 30 miles per hrs this week and he's going to get even faster.
So you ALL are once again invited to the track.
Below is an email from a young Wolverine woman. She's our next Kacey. She's
training to get SPEED.
See ya at the track.
