(Maine)- The Sunrise Conference will host their 2008 men's and women's soccer championships in Maine this weekend. The opening round of the men's and women's soccer tournaments will be at Scarborough High School in Scarborough, Maine on Sat. Nov. 8 and the two championship games will be at Deering High School in Portland, Maine on Sun. Nov. 9.
SUNY Canton and the University of Maine at Fort Kent have secured the top seeds for the women and men's soccer tournaments for the second year in a row and both are the defending champions of this year's tournament.
SUNY Canton finished the regular season at 13-0-1 in the Sunrise Conference and 14-3-1 overall and will face No. 4 University of Maine at Machias (9-5, 9-9) at noon on Saturday at Scarborough High School. No. 2 University of Maine at Fort Kent (12-2, 15-3) will battle No. 3 University of Maine at Presque Isle (9-4-1, 11-5-2) at 4 p.m. in the other semifinal game.
The Fort Kent men, ranked 11th in the nation finished the regular season undefeated at 14-0 in the conference and 18-0 overall. The Bengals will face No. 4 University of Maine at Machias (9-5, 10-8) at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Scarborough High School. No. 2 University of Maine at Presque Isle (10-3-1, 12-5-1) will take on No. 3 SUNY Canton (9-4-1, 9-7-2) in the final game on Saturday at 6 p.m.
The women's championship will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday and the men to follow at 3 p.m.
Admission to the tournaments is $5 per day which includes all four soccer games on Saturday and the two championship games on Sunday.
The winners will move on to the N.A.I.A. national championship tournament.
