For those who are interested, FORA will be hosting a Community Workshop
Tuesday, June 9th from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the FORA Bridge Center. The
ESCA Remediation Program Team will present more detailed information
about field work that is occurring on the ESCA properties; particularly
in the CSUMB Off-Campus and County North areas.

The Fort Ord Reuse Authority (“FORA”) is doing environmental cleanup
work near the East Campus housing area south of Inter-Garrison Road,
part of a 3,340 acre clean-up project. The work involves removing old
Army munitions/explosives, and is being done to protect public safety.

As of May 8th, FORA officially owns the ESCA properties.

Safety Access Corridors have been established through the ESCA parcels
and signs are being posted to help guide you safely to the Bureau of
Land Management (BLM) recreational areas. For your safety, stay on the
roads, respect work area signage, and maintain posted speed limits to
prevent accidental contact with workers and equipment.

Field crews are currently working south of Gigling Road, west of Watkins
Gate, north of Hay Rake Road and east of 8th Avenue. Crews are
conducting a surface investigation for Munitions and Explosives of
Concern (MEC).

Field crews have also removed vegetation on a 17-acre area south of
Inter-Garrison Road and east of 8th Avenue to confirm the quality of
previous munitions/explosives cleanup work. Field crews will be
continuing quality assurance activities in this area.

For regular updates on field work, schedules and access corridors,
please call the FORA ESCA Remediation Program Hotline at (831)
883-3506. More detailed information on project activities may be found
on the FORA website at: <www.fora-esca-rp.com.org>. Direct inquiries
may be sent via email to: <esca@...>.

Hi, Emily:

Yes! There are Bella's in Fresno. One of the active Bella's is moving to Fresno,
so it only really leaves Denise and I that race. Many are not active due to
recent births, pregnancies, and life in general. I am a new Bella - this is my
first year. Do you race?

Take care,
Brittany

Hello all,
I'm writing today to remind everyone about the upcoming USA Cycling Regional
Road Development Camp. This camp is for junior (14-18 yr old) and espoir
(19-22 yr old) athletes and will be held the third week of June (14-19) this
year - starting on Sunday afternoon- and is being hosted at DeSales
University.

Now in its fifth year, the camp offers a full complement of skills
development and educational sessions, group rides, and some race experience
all led by USA Cycling certified, professional coaches. Cost for the camp
is $750.00 for the week, which includes room, board and all instructional
fees. There is an early-bird registration date has passed. But, you can
still take advantage of a discount ($75.00/each) for "teammates" of 3 or
more...which would bring the individual registration cost down to
$675.00/athlete.

To register, request eligibility or view additional information directly on
USAC's web site click here:

https://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=809

Please pass this information along to your colleagues and cycling-related
contacts. If questions arise, please feel free to contact me directly at
ray.ignosh@... or 610.737.1981.

Thanks!

I have the following VB items for sale:

*~XS Mens Delfino Tri Tank *(Here is the link to see a picture of the style:
http://www.louisgarneau-custom.com/products/index.asp?style_no=9E20381 ). I
got this one over the women's because it is so much longer in the torso, and
it doesn't have a shelf bra, which I like because I always use my own). I
would say the XS fits more like a usual small. Paid $70, would like to get
$50. Brand new with tags.

*~Small Wmns Tri Shorts*. These are super comfy and very lightweight.
Standard small fit. Paid $55, would like to get $45. Brand new with tags.

*~Small Longsleeve Skinsuit.* I wore this for one time trial. *Ultra*
comfortable if you are racing time trials, cyclocross, track, crits, road
races, etc...not good for triathlon because of the pads, but SO comfy for
everything else. Paid $110. Maybe $75?

*~XS Arm warmers.* Brand new, paid $30. $20.

*~Small Cool Ves*t (
http://www.louisgarneau-custom.com/products/index.asp?style_no=9E28033 ),
Again, brand new. Paid $65. $45.

All of the above items are from the order last year and never worn except
the skinsuit was worn once.

~I also have a 2006 (I think...the older blue one from Team
Estrogen)*jersey and shorts
*. The jersey is a small, the shorts are a medium I think. The shorts are
pretty worn, but I'd give them to you if you wanted the jersey. $35.

In addition, I have lots of random jerseys, mostly size medium. Some really
nice stuff. I'll post pictures later. Also have Sidi road and mtn shoes for
sale.

If you take multiple items, I can probably go lower on the prices. I'll post
to the Bella Boards later today.

Feel free to email me directly off-list with any questions.

Thanks,
Julia Uhlendorf

A letter that I sent to the editor of the Herald last week was printed
in today's Laurels and Hardlys:
<http://www.montereyherald.com/letters/ci_12236292>

Slow down and relax:

To the BMW driver who honked at me Tuesday while I was bicycling on
Garden Road in Monterey: Perhaps it was because you thought I should
not
have been riding in the center of the lane. Let me assure you that I
was
not trying to annoy you or to make a point. For a short distance there
the lane is too narrow for a bicycle and a vehicle to travel safely
side
by side. Not only does the Vehicle Code specifically allow bicyclists
to
ride in the lane in that situation, but it is safer for me there than
riding next to the curb and inviting you to pass me in a narrow lane.

As time goes on, you will encounter more bicyclists and other
low-powered vehicles that cannot keep up with cars like yours, so it
will be necessary to adjust your driving habits and not treat every
street and road as if it were a freeway.

Love it!!

Where are those bumper stickers that say : "I Share the road" depicting a
bicycle and a car with ample distance from each other? Each car being
registered should be obligated to stick one of those on its bumper and in
order to obtain one, they must get a brief 'education' about the need to
actually share the road with other types of commuters.

A letter that I sent to the editor of the Herald last week was printed
in today's Laurels and Hardlys:
<http://www.montereyherald.com/letters/ci_12236292>

Slow down and relax:

To the BMW driver who honked at me Tuesday while I was bicycling on
Garden Road in Monterey: Perhaps it was because you thought I should not
have been riding in the center of the lane. Let me assure you that I was
not trying to annoy you or to make a point. For a short distance there
the lane is too narrow for a bicycle and a vehicle to travel safely side
by side. Not only does the Vehicle Code specifically allow bicyclists to
ride in the lane in that situation, but it is safer for me there than
riding next to the curb and inviting you to pass me in a narrow lane.

As time goes on, you will encounter more bicyclists and other
low-powered vehicles that cannot keep up with cars like yours, so it
will be necessary to adjust your driving habits and not treat every
street and road as if it were a freeway.

...Ever get burnt out after completing a few races?
...Have trouble sticking to a training program during down-time after an injury?
...Need some gentle encouragement on the road to achieving your weight loss
goals?

Recreational and competitive endurance athletes face tough challenges in all
aspects of their training such as keeping at an optimal level of fitness,
maintaining ideal body weight, getting enough sustenance and good nutrition.
However, sometimes the physical training is not quite enough to overcome certain
problems.

Sports Psychology counseling can help you to keep running when you feel tired,
stay engaged and motivated even when you are no longer chasing the bigger races,
and retain your positive energy when an injury has you down and out.

At NO CHARGE to you, I'm offering guidance, a bit of a push, and as much
assistance as you need to get through tough times and stay 'on track', whether
you are in preparing, training, or recovery mode.

ABOUT ME:
I'm new to triathlon but not new to sports and fitness. A former golf
professional, gymnastics coach and surf instructor (& participant in all these
sports plus many more), I am currently working on my Master's degree in
Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Psychology at SDSU.

Hi Bellas!

I'm here from Canada doing my Master's in Sports Psychology at San Diego State
University. I'm coming to the end of my semester and need to find a job in
order to remain in the US.

I'm trying to find a company that could hire me on a work visa so that I can
stay and continue to get exposure in my field, as well as provide service and
contributions to the sports community.
--
Being Canadian and having a professional background in computers means that
obtaining a work visa will not be a challenge. I just need to find someone who
wants to hire me. The visa paperwork and costs will be mine to bear.

It would be great to support a company that is somehow related to sports,
psychology, or health, but I'll take any job I can find because I'd like to
remain in San Diego at all costs!! (and these days, one can't be picky!)

Please email me offline and I'll send you my resume or give you a call to
discuss what I have to offer you!

Thank you very much!

Hey all -

I've been asked to pass around the news that they've added a women's category to
the Palm Bluff's Criterium in Fresno on May 23.  Here's the flier,
http://ncnca.org/road/2009/PBC_race_flyer.pdf, and although it doesn't display a
women's category, it'll be at 2 PM after the men's 1/2/3 race.  It's being
sponsored by Felicia Gomez, among others.

Thanks!

They just started this business (so I haven't been able to think about asking
them for sponsorship since they are just getting their feet wet), but thought
I'd send out a post to you gals and see if you are interested ---- support them.
They have a few great products already out there...here is a great article on
them already and their Tyre Lever/Wrench:

Support PDW and I think some day they will be able to support us!

Also - provide feedback to me and I can get it to them...I think as a new
business supporting cyclists, they need the feedback. Dan (my cousin) has done
A LOT of riding and living the cyclists life (He once lived in a van in
California so he could write for Bike Magazine). He is very passionate about
supporting cyclists everywhere.

Thanks ladies!

Hey Bellas -

Throwing out my two cents about this clinic...If you're in the Bay
Area and can make to Hellyer for this track clinic, do it! Even if you
aren't interested in track racing, this is an incredible opportunity.
The bike handling and pack maneuvering skills learned at the track are
invaluable, plus you can learn tons about race dynamics that easily
translate to road racing (especially crits). I started riding at the
track last summer just for the fitness but ended up getting so much
more out of it...its probably the one thing that's helped me develop
the most as a cyclist.

The instructors for this event are incredible, too. I've learned more
about racing in 5-minute conversations with Annabell than I have
anywhere else. If you want to develop a killer sprint, she's your
woman. Shelley Olds is just a class act...crazy fast and talented
rider who will take the time to talk to you about anything, plus she's
a great instructor. And when do you get the opportunity to learn
practically one-on-one from a UCI World Championships-level rider?

We need more women at Hellyer! The ladies who do ride there do a great
job of taking care of each other. You don't have to be fast; you just
have to be willing to have fun with it. So give the clinic a try!

Cheers,
Beth
