Salinas HS MTB Team Fundraiser   Message List

Hi ladies -

Passing this information on from a parent of a couple of kids on the
Salinas High School Mountain Bike Team. The team is having a
fundraiser since they get very little funding from the school. The
Salinas HS team has doubled in size in the last two years and they
have 6 girls racing for them! I've seen these kids out riding and
racing and they work hard. Here's the information regarding the
fundraiser...

The Salinas High School Mountain Bike Team, Cowboy Racing, is in its
second year of existence and they are a powerful force in the Nor Cal
Mountain Bike League. It occurred to me to write to you because you
understand how great it is to get girls, and for that matter all kids
into biking. Our team has grown (pretty much doubled) in size since
last year and the number of girls has about doubled as well. It's
really exciting!

It is "that-time-of-year" when we do fundraising to provide
scholarships to kids who can't afford the League registration fee
($250.00) or need other forms of assistance to be able to participate.
Our goal is to turn NO child away due to lack of resources, including
lack of a bike! Keeping a student involved in something
extracurricular, regardless of family social status or financial
resources, has a huge impact on their academic performance and their
school attendance. The kids get no money from Salinas High School.
Let's face it if there isn't a ball involved, it doesn't seem to
register that kind of support.

I have this fantasy picture in my mind of a bunch of local bikers
showing up to pick up their BBQ so the kids can see what a cool thing
they are a part of and so their parents can see just how supportive
bikers are of one another.

This year the kids and parents are holding a Tri Tip BBQ on March 7th
in the Salinas High parking lot. Tickets are $20 and include a
seasoned whole Tri Tip from Star Market, 4 rolls, and mixed green
salad. Pick-up time runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

If you'd like to buy a ticket, contact Jennifer Crowley.
