Folks,
Here are the details for the Interuniversity Tournament in Sudbury, April 3,
2004.
(There is still space to squeeze 2 people but I need to know TODAY if you're
interested!!!)
There will be two vans leaving for Sudbury on Saturday morning.
Arrive at the Athletic Center for 7:30 am and meet on Classic Avenue (south
entrance).
The vans should be on the road by 8 am.
You should get to Sudbury by 12 pm. This should include any rest stops.
The tournament begins at 1pm, which means you need to go straight to the
University of Laurentian Gym in the Alphonse Raymond Building.
Once you are there Charles Fink will help direct you.
He is the organizer.
ACCOMODATIONS
I have made reservations at the Travelodge (about 10mins from Laurentian) at
1401 Paris Street, Sudbury
705-522-1100
A person has been assigned for each room reservation.
That person will pay for the room when you check-in and the other roommates
will reimburse that person for their share.
Rooms have been held for check-in until 7pm.
(The tournament will not run beyond 6pm, which should give you enough time
to get to the motel for checkin)
The cost of each room is $72 + tax.
There will be one room with 3 for which I have requested a cot. In that
room there will be an extra $10 charged.
I will forward room assignments in a separate email.
Charles has made dinner reservations at Don Cherry’s.
Talk to Charles regarding any other plans you may have.
VAN RENTALS
The drivers are as follows
Van A – Jan Huang, Christian Amizola
Van B – John McEwen, Shazam Williams
The vans have been reserved to be picked up on Friday afternoon between
6-7pm through Budget Rental.
The address is 333 College St. W. just west of Spadina (basically opposite
Massimos pizza)
416-963-9496
Both drivers may need to be present at the time of pickup.
Drivers to decide who will bring the van to the AC on Saturday morning.
The vans are to be returned on Sunday BEFORE the office closes at 4:00 pm.
This means that the vans should be on the road by 11am LATEST.
The schedule on Sunday will be determined once you get to Sudbury.
The Laurentian club would like to have a sharing of Karate styles.
1 hour of Shotokan followed by 1 hour of Goju.
This could happen on Sunday morning 8-10am or possibly on Saturday.
Be mindful that the van rentals need to be returned by 4 pm Sunday.
COSTS
The Van rentals will be paid for by the club including gas (wow you guys are
lucky this year).
Drivers to retain all gas receipts for reimbursement.
Tournament registration $0. (Medals have not been purchased as this will be
a friendly tournament. Buy the organizer a beer)
This means that you will be basically responsible for your room and any food
you buy on the trip.
The room will be about $45 per person.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS
Take 400 North - it becomes 69 north at about Parry Sound.
It will take you right into the South end of Sudbury.
At the first major intersection take a right onto Paris Street (there is an
independant Grocer on one corner, hotel on another)
Follow Paris a few km and you will see the Travelodge (this is where you
will be staying) on the left.
Turn right on Ramsey Lake Road (there is a Travelway Inn on the corner and
across from Science North)
Take Ramsey Lake Road to get to Laurentian.
Enter campus at the Blue Sign and follow the map (I will send this to the
drivers).
Go to the Alphonse Raymond Building.
TOURNMENT
WKF rules will be observed for the most part.
Bring your kumite equipment.
Red and Blue and any protective gear.
This will be a friendly tournament between the two clubs.
I have forwarded the list of competitors to Charles and he will organize the
draw sheets.
I hope I have been able to answer all questions and concerns.
Good Luck and Have Fun!!!
