Former BYU women's volleyball team player Charlene Tagaloa and
Salt Lake native Logan Tom
were named to the 12-member team that will represent the U.S. in the 2000
Summer Olympic Games as announced today by USA Women's National
Volleyball Team Head Coach Mick Haley. The final selection of the team is
pending approval from the United States Olympic Committee.

"It was an extremely difficult decision, because everyone had their own
asset," Haley said. "We have a good mix of veterans and young
players. That combination gives us the best chance to go for a medal in
Sydney."

The 12 members of the Olympic Team will be:

Robyn Ah Mow (Honolulu/University of Hawai'i),
Heather Bown (Yorba Linda, Calif./University of Hawai'i),
Tara Cross Battle (Houston/Long Beach State),
Mickisha Hurley (Miami Shores, Fla./Barry University),
Sarah Noriega (Ulysses, Kan./Loyola Marymount University),
Demetria Sance (San Antonio, Texas/University of Texas),
Danielle Scott (Baton Rouge, La./Long Beach State),
Stacy Sykora (Burleson, Texas/Texas A&M),
Charlene Tagaloa (Las Vegas/Brigham Young University),
Logan Tom (Salt Lake City/Stanford University),
Kerri Walsh (Saratoga, Calif./Stanford University),
Allison Weston (Papillion, Neb./University of Nebraska).

Benishe Dillard (Kent, Wash./Long Beach State) and
Laura Johnson (Wheaton, Ill/Ohio State)
will serve as the team's alternates.

Smack Sportswear was established in 1994 by beach purists who love nothing more than to play volleyball, surf, and hang with their buds on the So Cal sands.  We therefore have the ability to design stylish, functional, unique clothing from a participant's perspective.
We have spent the last 4 months creating a constantly changing site which allows enthusiasts from all over the world to view and purchase our "So. Cal inspired" apparel, interact with our pro athletes, and learn more about what's happening in the world of volleyball.
Tim Hovland tells it like noone else can in Hov's World, while the Players Corner allows you to ask questions of our pro athletes.
Our Monthly Specials and Discount Buys sections  offer off-price goods not sold in retail stores. If nothing there catches your eye, you may view our Summer 2000 line, then check the Dealers section to find a store in your area carrying our line.

Over the next few months, we will be adding new sections such as "Geet City", Event Results & Athlete Rankings, as well as a "Competition" line of apparel which we provide to Professional Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey players. I hope you enjoy the site and look forward to your feedback.

From todays LA Times, 4/5/00
http://sports.latimes.com/news/20000404/oth/000404.0448.html

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego State will drop men's volleyball
after this school year as part of a cost-cutting measure,
reducing its men's varsity sports to the minimum of six
for NCAA Division I members.

Coach Jack Henn, in his 17th season as Aztecs coach,
will remain at the school until his contract expires in June.

Rick Bay, who has been athletic director at four schools for a
total of 16 years, said it was the first time he's had to drop a
sport. Bay has a background in another non-revenue producing
sport, wrestling, so he said this was a painful
decision. "But our budget situation is one that requires
us to make significant cuts," Bay said Tuesday.

Men's volleyball has been a varsity sport at SDSU since 1967, and
the program produced the school's only national championship, in
1973. With the school unable to give the program adequate
financial support, the Aztecs haven't had a winning season since
1994.
---

There are currently only 23 Mens Division I volleyball
programs, and a total of 81 NCAA Mens volleyball
programs.
There are 307 Womens Division I volleyball programs, and a
total of 971 NCAA Womens volleyball programs.
