Sunday, June 6th:
The U.S. Men's National Team returned to action today against
Paraguay, posting a 2-0 victory in the final match for the U.S.
before attempting to defend its title in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup,
beginning next Saturday. Team USA is now ranked NUMBER NINE in the
latest FIFA World Rankings (June 2003). USA has performed up to
expectations in 2003, losing only to three teams ranked above them by
FIFA (Brazil, Argentina, and Turkey).
Here's a Short Summary On Today's Match in Columbus, OH (at the MLS
Columbus Crew Stadium, also a venue for the 2003 World Cup...)
The U.S. struck first, as Landon Donovan converted a cross from
DaMarcus Beasley in the 12th minute. Beasley got free with a fine
effort in the left side of the penalty area, leaving three frustrated
Paraguayan defenders in his wake. The second U.S. goal came from
Earnie Stewart, just before the final whistle to provide the winning
2-0 scoreline for the U.S. in front of 14,103 fans at Columbus Crew
Stadium, where the U.S. has never lost. Today's match was broadcast
live on ESPN2, Telemundo, and Radio Unica.
