Mexico hosts Japan today in the opening match of a two-leg playoff
for the final berth in the Women's World Cup, and Las Tricoloras are
leaving as little to chance as possible.
They are playing in Mexico City, with choking smog. They are playing
at noon (10 a.m. PDT), when the sun is at its most piercing. They are
playing at storied Estadio Azteca. And they are charging no
admission, hoping for the same kind of raucous, horn-blowing crowd
that has powered the men's national team to victory after victory on
Mexican soil.
