It was a night for the bottom teams to tighten up the Major League
Soccer table, as D.C. United, the Colorado Rapids and the Los Angeles
Galaxy each doubled their win totals for the 2003 season with
victories on Saturday night.
There were resounding victories in Washington, where United hammered
Columbus Crew 3-0, and Denver, where Rapids rolled over New England
Revolution by a 4-1 scoreline. Los Angeles Galaxy won by 2-1 for
their second consecutive victory, but it came against a Kansas City
Wizards side that had lost just once in 10 matches coming into the
weekend.
The L.A. Galaxy had opened the season without a victory on their
eight-match road trip, but now that they've moved into their new Home
Depot Center, won for the second consecutive week in a pitched battle
with Western Conference-leading Kansas City. Josh Wolff put the
Wizards ahead early in the second half (49), but Cobi Jones equalized
just five minutes later
