Los Angeles Maccabee A.C. defeat the Brooklyn Dodgers 5-1, to win the U.S. Open Cup. Maccabee A.C.'s fifth title victory ties them with Bethlehem Steel for most U.S. Open Cup championships won by a team. Dan Ben Dror scored a hat trick for Maccabee.

Dallas Roma FC become the first USASA club to defeat a team from the USL First Division, with a 1-0 win over Miami FC. John Waters scored the only goal Roma would need, from the penalty spot early in the game. Miami finished the match with nine men, after Michael Erush and Fabian Sandoval were sent off in the second half.

New York Greek American win their third consecutive U.S. Open Cup championship, defeating Los Angeles Armenians 1-0, at Rancho La Cienega Stadium in Los Angeles. Dennis Nanos scored the winning goal in the final minute for the Greeks.

Greek American A.C., from San Francisco, defeats Kutis SC from St. Louis, 2-1, to win the U.S. Open Cup. Salvador Bernardezand Esmaeil Rahimipour scored for Greek American.

Mugurel Dimitru scores six goals in the San Diego Flash's 9-2 second round win over the Arizona Sahuaros. The mark stands as a record for most goals in a single game in the Professional Era.
July 1, 1983
Washington's FOE Eagles, defeat San Francisco's Greek American A.C. 1-0 in one of the more controversial chapters in the Cup's history. On May 29, the Eagles had beaten Greek American 1-0 in the Region IV final, but were later disqualified for using an ineligible player. The Eagles managed to get a court-ordered replay of the match for July 1, the night before the Open Cup semifinals in Houston, Texas. By midnight, the Eagles walked away with another 1-0 win, this time from a goal by Peter Fewing. John and Jim Rally, managers of the Greek American squad announced they would sue the USSF, and threatened to have their players take the field against NY Pancyprian Freedoms in the semifinals. The Rallys were upset that no USSF officials were present in Seattle for the court hearing, and planned to sue the USSF for the expense of traveling to Houston, which they estimated at $50,000. The Eagles went on to lose their semifinal match to the Pancyprian Freedoms 4-2.
July 3, 1983
New York Pancyprian Freedoms defeat Kutis SC of St. Louis 4-3, to win their third U.S. Open Cup title in four years. The Final was also the first for Kutis since 1957. Christos Christou and Evagoras Christophi each scored twice for Pancyprian.
July 4, 1965
In the second leg of the U.S. Open Cup Final in Chicago, Ukrainian S.C. of New York defeat Chicago's Hansa 4-1 in extra time. After playing to a 1-1 draw at full time, Peter Smethurst, Peter Schaefer, Walter Schmotolcha scored in extra time to give the Ukrainians the title. |
