The Charleston Battery earned a berth into the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals Tuesday night at Blackbaud Stadium upsetting Major League Soccer’s CD Chivas USA 3-1 behind a first half brace by Randi Patterson. Charleston will face winner of Houston Dynamo vs Austin Aztex
Quarterfinal will be played at Blackbaud Stadium
The Charleston Battery will face the winner of the Austin Aztex vs Houston Dynamo match in the Quarterfinals. If Austin advances the game will be played on Wednesday, July 8 if Houston advances the game will be played on Tuesday, July 7. Upsets abound as four MLS teams are bounced from the Cup
Champions DC United make it through to the quarters
For the first time since 1997, two USL2 clubs advanced to the Quarterfinals Tuesday evening as the Wilmington Hammerheads and Harrisburg City Islanders upset MLS opposition to advance to the elite eight. Charleston also knocked off an MLS club for the third straight year and the Rochester Rhinos advanced in penalties.
