Thanks to Holly Mitchell, the DDE Membership Coordinator, for submitting the updated roster to USDF. In April we set the goal of having 100 members this year and we are currently at 99!!
I just can't stop grinning when I think of how far we have come in 5 fun years. Way to go, everyone!!!
See you at the Dakota HorseFest shows next weekend in Huron.
Cheers and many thanks,
Sarah

From Ann Bennett to Sarah Patrick, small GMO liaison for Region 4 (with permission to share). Please welcome the Great River Classical Horsemanship Association to the fold. Ann's email address is -- windrushhill@... and their current newsletter is attached. I'm working to get the GMO connected to the GMOPrez and the USDFRegion4 listserves, too.
"Things are going well, we have lots of activities, we are an eclectic group, involved in all kinds of disciplines (dressage, english pleasure, western pleasure, trail riding, natural horsemanship training, cutting, roping, reining, distance riding, hunter/jumper, etc) but believe classical horsemanship and classically based training provide a solid foundation. Weekly dressage lessons are offered by our mentor, Genelle Royer, we
attend dressage clinics, we do lots of reading of classically based literature and view videos. I don't think any of our membership currently shows on a regular basis. I think many of the members have shown in various disciplines with various breeds at different times in their lives. We also like to participate in drill teams, play games on horseback, and trail ride together. So casual activities that allow us to practice good horsemanship skills and be safe, have fun, build camaraderie, and expose our horses to new sights and sounds. So I suppose we (including our horses) are life long learners. Our common interest is becoming better horseman and horsewomen, and having happy, healthy, well educated horses.
I know that I personally am also motivated to work for a well trained, well behaved, well
adjusted horse as I think that is the best way to insure that my horse will always have a home and a future, should something happen to me.
Our next activity coming up is hosting a fun day to ride a dressage test, and learn to judge and scribe a test also, I think on June 20th. We just co-hosted a Trail Trials with the Iowa Trail Riders Association on May 6-7 at Shimek State Forest in southeast Iowa. This is an outdoor trail class using natural obstacles. One of the members hosted Dominique Barbier at her home for a three day clinic in April, and two members just got back from participating in a clinic in May with Sylvia Loch near Chicago. I will forward a newsletter also, which may be of interest to see what else we are doing.
As far as what
the Region can do for it's membership, I think we are all interested in affordable educational opportunities. We like to attend the Illinois Horse Fair in March as Centerline Dressage hosts a good dressage clinician each year. We also like to attend the adult education clinics sponsored by USDF in each region.
Sincerely, Ann Bennett, Treasurer, Great River Classical Horsemanship Association"

I would suggest the AQHA
Magazine, and maybe the APHA Connection Magazines. Our club’s KDEA
newsletter will gladly make mention of the convention, and there are also a few
other horse publications in the area; such as the Horse Tales &
Sales; Topline Inc (contact Terryn Griest); contact the Kansas Horse
Council and there’s a Newspaper put out by someone named Checker’s

One of our new advertisers in our year book is the Central Mobile Wash Service. This business is excellent. The man that came to me to clean my trailer spent hours and my 1990 trailer looked like new when he was done. He can do a group or several if you live a distance, but he does take a long time with each trailer. He has his own spraying system and just needs water to refill it. He is located in Paola. Please try using him. His rates are reasonable. It is like getting your car detailed. It is not like going to a car wash. I encouraged them to advertise with us and I hope that many of you will use the services they offer.
His number is 913-557-5710 and their email is Kathryn@.... I know that you will be pleased with the job that they will do for you.
I think since I reminded people to sign up that we will fill it with young riders. We hope to have an adult clinic in the fall in Nebraska and all adults that would like can sign up for that clinic. You will see reminders about it, when we get a clincian. Linda
Ditto.

Hi Laurie,
Yes, KCDS is hosting a breed show on Monday, July 3, 2006 at Longview Horse
Park. The decision was only made a few months ago and we are in the process
of getting all the paper work straight with USEF and USDF. Once that is
done it will be added to the website dressageshowinfo.com
Please feel free to contact me or the show manager Kris Tilson if you have
any further questions.
Thank you!

I hadn't heard about any breed show semi-locally but would be interested also to find out details. Do you have a young one to go to the show this year? I have a two year old that I would be happy to get out if possible. Thanks, B.
