To our USDF Region 4 friends--
We invite you to join DDE and the national 'Make a Difference Day' (http://www.makeadifferenceday.com/) to participate in our annual meeting, silent auction (which is available on the web, too, so you can participate from wherever you are located!), and 'Ride for Relief' clinic with USDF Gold Medalist, Anne Hornbeak, from Folsom, Louisiana (USDF Region 9), October 22-23 in Huron, South Dakota. Funds raised will benefit the animal relief efforts after hurricane Katrina.
Cheers,
Sarah Patrick

I hope that as many members as possible will come participate in our annual meeting, 'Making a Difference', in Huron, SD on October 22. Not only is that day the national, "Make a Difference Day", but given that our Silent Auction and Clinic ('Ride for Relief') will benefit the animal relief fund for recovery from Hurricane Katrina, it just seems very fitting that we are taking about and encouraging all members to Make a Difference.Of course, I believe that the theme is interwoven throughout our entire meeting. The meeting is used to elect our DDE and East Plains Dressage chapter officers. By leading the organization and growing our art/sport, they will Make a Difference. Thanks to Laurie Holverson for giving back to DDE from her experience as a USDF Associate Instructor and to anyone who makes fun/educational posters to share with the group as we get started Saturday morning. Sharing this knowledge will Make a Difference. We alternate from educational sessions to committee work throughout the day. As we take in new knowledge, share knowledge with each other, and put that knowledge to work, we all Make a Difference. In the evening, we will hear from a Grand Prix trainer and rider from Louisiana, Anne Hornbeak, who has lived through the hurricane and will be sharing with us how we can Make a Difference in the care of animals that could not get away. Anne has waived her fees to come spend a weekend with us so that all funds raised could go toward hurricane relief. I hope our listening and caring of her while she is with us will help give her a brief break from the effects of dealing with the hurricane herself.Lastly, we will celebrate our riders and horses with awards and recognition Saturday evening. Hopefully, through the improved riding, education, and training implied by scores earned and awards won we Make a Difference in our horses' lives and in our own, individually and collectively. Please come participate! Donate generously to the Silent Auction and ride in the clinic with a very skilled trainer. Consider serving DDE as an officer or encourage a dedicated friend to do so. Bring your students/trainer/spouse, and/or friends! Let's celebrate another year together, having the opportunity to learn and grow with the horses we love.See you October 22-23!Cheers,Sarah
