Fund Raising for

Hurricane Katrina Animal Rescue!!

Please post at your stable, business, local tack store and forward on to friends

There is an urgent need for donations to key organizations tasked with the Hurricane Katrina Animal Rescue.  So many people had to leave their animals or turned their livestock loose and now those animals and owners need our help.  The first step is to rescue and stabilize these animals in shelters or foster homes.  Step Two will be to care for these animals for the many months it will take to get their owners back in a position to reunite with their pets.  Step Three is reunite as many as possible with their owners while Step Four will be to find permanent homes for those animals that can’t be reunited with their owners.

It is so important to support the key organizations that have taken on this monumental task and commitment to these animals.  These organizations need money, not supplies, so please donate today!!

And unfortunately there are scams beginning to surface that will take your money and keep it!  So please donate to organizations that you know or are listed on known website as part of the rescue operation.

Donate directly through key organizations – these are just a few!!

  • Humane Society of the United States – www.hsus.org - Leading the way in animal rescue throughout the region!  The stories and pictures on their website will break your heart!
  • Lone Star Equine Rescue – www.lser.org - one of the key organizations asked to participate in the equine rescue operations
  • Habitat for Horses – www.habitatforhorses.org - in partnership with Lone Star Equine Rescue
  • Noah's Wish - www.noahswish.com - helping in rescue and needs donations.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA), the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA), the Louisiana Animal Control Association (LACA), the LSU AgCenter, and the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) are managing animal evacuations and recovery plans for pets and displaced animals in LA.  They will be able to use any donation quickly. You may designate that your donation be used to care for animals directly, or that it may be used in support of the veterinarians who are now in Baton Rouge helping to provide care for stranded animals.  Donations can be made through:

Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association – www.lvma.org

Louisiana State University Veterinary School – www.vetmed.lsu.edu

  • United States Equestrian Federation – www.usef.org - has established a USEF Hurricane Relief Fund to assist those agencies working directly with the equine victims and refugees from Hurricane Katrina. The money will be used to support efforts to deliver food, veterinary services, and shelter for horses and ponies in the hurricane stricken areas.

Support Local Fund Raising Activities

Fund Raising will be set up at area equine events and all proceeds will go to those agencies working directly with the equine victims and refugees from Hurricane Katrina

  • Covered M Annual Tack Sale – September 24 & 25 - Thanks Bob and Vicki for donating space and supporting the fund raising activities!

·         KCDS Championship and Open School Show – October 1st @ Longview Horse Park

·         KCDS Symposium with Dr. Cesar Parra – October 15 & 16 @ White Fox Manor

Contact Maggie Stonecipher @ stoneymeadow@... if you can volunteer at one of these events!  We need people at the event to take donations!

Dr Jon Haggard, Eudora Veterinary Hospital, left Tuesday for a least a week at LSU volunteering with rescue efforts.  He spent the weekend talking to area vets getting as much support as possible.   Jon is representing the KC Veterinary Medical Association, KS Veterinary Medical Association and Kansas Horse Council in coordinating efforts.  Donations may be made to these organizations and directed to specifically assist with additional supplies as well as travel and living expenses for our area vets who will also volunteer their time in these rescue efforts!!!

Sharon White-Lewis has been compiling a list of foster homes and will contact various organizations with the offer of help.  Please contact Sharon at sharon_lewis@... if you can offer a foster home!!
