Re: [usdfregion4] Fwd: [GMOPrez] USEF Proposed Rule Change GR 1212.5

What would having a second EMT do???  If a rider is injured to the point of needing evacuation, then they need evacuation and the EMTs cannot control the speed of the ambulance response.  And I know from vast experience when you are waiting for an ambulance, time seems to grind to a halt.  A more reasonable option would be to consider increasing the level of expertise(rather than the number of bodies) when there is jumping--We could consider a rule change that requires a paramedic rather than an EMT to be present during  jumping competitions.

Subject: [GMOPrez] USEF Proposed Rule Change GR 1212.5

I don't know if all of you have been advised of the above mentioned proposed rule change.  It was brought about by an accident where a husband felt the availability of an ambulance for his injured wife at a jumping event was not provided in a timely fashion.  The rule change does not address the need for an ambulance at shows but does require a second EMT to be on property for any approved USEF show.  The California Dressage Society, not wanting to discount safety in any way, has sent a letter asking the committee to consider each discipline and the actual needs for each type of show when casting their decision.  There is a link to the proposal listed in the following response from Ms. Claywell from USEF.  Please contact Ms. Claywell of USEF at lclaywell@usef.org with your concerns over this rule change as it will carry a financial impact on dressage shows of all sizes.  I have discussed this a bit with USDF and it will be addressed at the upcoming Convention.

Carol Tice, President
California Dressage Society

Ms. Tice,
Rule change proposals are not finally considered until the USEF Annual Meeting in January.
Iā?Tve attached a link to the draft of the proposal so that you may see the proposed effective date is 4/1/08. http://www.usef.org/documents/ruleChanges/302-07.pdf
I have no way of knowing at this time whether this rule will be passed or not.  Rule change proposals are posted on the USEF web site for the very purpose of soliciting comments.  I have already forwarded your previous comments to the Safety Committee.
