As you plan your trip to Florida to participate in the USDF convention and educational sessions, please do schedule in the Region 4 meetings there. Instead of the 'first in the morning' slots we have had in past years, the first Region 4 meeting will be held from 4:45 - 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28 and the second meeting will be held from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29. Who should attend? Any Region 4 member! Delegates (GM and PM), we will be going through the Board of Governor's agenda and likely items that will come before the BOG. Coordinators and Youth Executive Board members will hopefully share what is happening in your Council/Board. Also new for this year will be a Region 4 business agenda that includes:
* Reviewing and approving applications for the 2008 adult education grants (i.e., for educational programs from April 1, 2008
- March 31, 2009).
* Reviewing and approving applications for 2008 Region 4 Junior Team and Adult Team Championships.
* Reviewing and approving applications for the Region 4 FEI jr/yr clinic and the use of junior/young rider (i.e., not specific to FEI level riders) grant dollars).
* There will be a photo display of the Region 4 FEI jr/yr teams at NAJYRC and (if no conflict in other presentations) a presentation on the World Cup and Pan American Games international competitions by Lloyd Landkamer who worked at both venues.
* Review and updating of the Region 4 Handbook and annual budget.
* Planning session
for a Region 4 symposium with a nationally known clinician.
* Discuss the possibility of a winter web- or conference-call based 'GMO Leader Series' designed to help strengthen and grow our GMOs. Potential topics include: budgeting for non-profits, managing volunteers, membership recruitment and retention. Others you would like to learn more about? Speakers you would like to recommend?
Region 4 GMOs and PMs are encouraged to email me photos for a PowerPoint celebration of people and horses in Region 4. Also, please bring copies of newsletters to share what you are doing with other GMOs in the Region. Please bring some giveaways, if you have some extras, from your shows or other activities that you would 'trade' through drawings with other Region 4 members who are present at the
meetings.
In about one month, I will be mailing a CD with important background materials to help you prepare for the Region 4 and BOG meetings to each of the delegates (GM and PM), so please do send me your 'snail mail' address if you are a delegate. If you can't use a CD to download documents, let me know that, too, and we can work something out to get the materials to you. My address and contact information is given below.
Cheers,
Sarah
