Bike Race

Well, after riding to work for a year, I decided
to enter a bike race.

A little time back, I
joined a cycle club - one known for their racing. I got
a few good deals on cycling stuff, and a jersey for
joining, so even if I didn't race, its still worth it. If
members finish well, the club reimburses for the cost of
the race, so it can be even better.

Well, I
entered my first bike race on Saturday. It was one put on
by the club, and featured 56 miles and 3000 feet of
climbing over two laps.

Unfortunately, I was weak
as a kitten on that day. I really sucked. At the
first hill, merely a bump, by legs started burning, and
didn't let up until I was going down hill. By that time,
the pack had dropped me. I spent 50 some odd miles
riding alone, wondering about the intelligence of
spending $30 to suffer alone when I could have done it for
free out of my own home. In the end, I finished only
to say that I did the whole race.

At least
the scenery was beautiful. It was on the coast
between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. Riding into the
hills meant redwoods, and out of the hills meant ocean
views.

The worst part of it all was on Monday, when I was
visiting the 'rents. Dad and I rode around, and I went up
the hills at speed without any problems.

Oh
well, back to commuting...
JOKE
