Thankfully, not all cyclists are couriers!! :)

Pedestrians here are pushy as well. I am one of them, I
suppose. My room-mate (from the midwest) is amazed at the
frequency with which I will step right out into the road.
And the way I see it, if I have the time to cross
without getting hit, why not jaywalk. The problem comes
in, of course, when I, as a pedestrian, miscalculate.
It happens. Sounds like Boston is over-reacting to
save some political face perhaps. Too bad. And how
ironic indeed that the nationals are being held there.
Planned, I presume, before the city's latest
title...

I would advocate insurance for bicyclists, except I
don't have any. I wasn't even aware you could get it.
Do you have any info on that such as providers?
Before I mandated insurance for cyclists, however, I
would make sure drivers were insured. While we have a
statewide mandatory insurance law for drivers here in WA,
many people behind the wheel assume they only need
insurance if they are gonna get caught by the cops for
something else, or if they are going to have an accident.
Fortunately, those things always announce themselves a week
beforehand!

I have to share this with the group here: Olympia
is a rather hilly place, and i often find myself at
a stoplight, winded, waiting behind a car. Last
night it was a Volvo, an older one, blowing some skanky
fumes out of its tailpipe. O.K. I am used to that. Lots
of hippies out here with volvos and vws. Of course
this particular volvo had the "bikes just smell
better" bumpersticker on its back end. I advised the
driver to get a tune up.
That is indeed a hilarious/terrifying story. I try to feel solidarity with other cyclists but I get irritated/terrified when I see cyclists riding the wrong...
