I am not sure what rules and regulations your own
municipalities or states/provinces require bicyclists to follow,
but I will explain here in Washington State, bicycles
are full fledged vehicles. As such, they are required
to have a headlight, and a red light or reflector on
the back. They must obey all traffic signs. Stop
signs are stops, and I have seen police in my city
(Olympia) stop bicyclists for not stopping at stop signs.
As vehicles, we are entitled to a position on the
lane of travel, unless there is a bicycle lane marked
or signed with a diamond. While the law does
encourage bicyclists to tend toward the right edge of a
lane, it does stipulate that a cyclist should not
jeapordize their safety, and should position themselves in
the lane accordingly.

I will have to find the
link to the RCW's and post it here, and if anyone is
interested they could know how one state has handled the
seemingly tricky problem of how to get cars and bikes to
coexist peacefully and safely on the roadway.
It's true that cyclists are prone to lapses of attention, and that by ignoring signs we can cause accidents. I'm certainly not porposing a total lack of rules....

I could only suggest re-threading it. However, if you do need to replace the crank, check to see if you have a bicycle recycler in your area. It will be a ...
I hadn't thought about looking for a recycler. I've been watching for "junk" bikes on trash day next to the curb but hadn't seen any yet. The problem with...
Yes Don, A recycler sounds good. Or maybe a nice neighborhood shop would be able to help with a used crank set or a single crank. I USED to have a shop like ...
