Australian National Ultimate Championships
24-27th April 2003
Canberra
There has been a fair amount of discussion about how the teams that go to
Australian Nationals are to be selected, I don't believe any firm conclusion
has been reached, though the last email from Hayden on this contained some
recommendations.
"* agree that we will encourage clubs to send mens and womens teams to
aussie nats in accordance with the club selection process in the policy
(which might need some wording changes).
* agree that we will select an international rep team for asia/oceania in
accordance with the individual selection process in the policy.
* announce both events to the ultimate community, and
* invite the international coordinator to ask clubs about the level of
interest in both aussie nats and japan from club players."
I am in agreement with the suggestions (in theory), so unless there are any
objections to them I will proceed with the last step. In practise I do have
some concerns regarding sending club teams to Australian Nationals.
Notwithstanding the teams that are sent to NZ Open our Clubs are based on a
co-ed set up - are there any clubs that can realistically send teams to
Australian Nationals? Or are we expecting something similar to the teams
that went to Australian Mixed Nationals which were based (very loosely) on a
couple of clubs?
If clubs are not capable of sending teams then should the UPC select teams
for Australian Nationals? Or should the UPC merely be a facilitator for
people to put teams together? I notice from Penny's email regarding the Open
she mentions organising two womens teams to go to Australian Nationals -
this would clearly not fit either teams or a upc-lead team selection.
Thoughts please, I realise a lot of people are probably away at the moment
so if possible any comments by the 13th of January.
