Why not?
1) Aus nats is not an international event.
2) Aus nats is a club event.
Given these, why send official NZ rep teams? If this event is to be part of
a bigger NZ rep build up then I would concede that this might make sense,
but it's not. Aus does not send rep teams to our 'nationals'.
3) We already have an official (ie. WFDF sanctioned) international event in
2003 that is far more appropriate for the selection policy (Asia/Oceania
champs), and I am not sure that we can realistically sustain more than one
official international foray.
4) The Asia/Oceania champs deserves our support and there is a risk that by
pushing Aus nats, we will dilute any support for Asia/Oceania champs. I
think Asia/Oceania champs deserves our official support more than Aus
nationals.
5) With the possibility of the NZ Open being an open/womens event there is a
good chance that our own club teams will be thinking about attending Aus
nats. This is much more in line with encouraging regional development.
Of course if our own club teams decide to focus on Aus nats and that dilutes
support for Asia/Oceania champs, then so be it. There is realistically
nothing that we can do to stop this (nor would we want to IMO). But at
least that lack of support wouldn't have stemmed from an official
decision/policy from the NZFDA, instead it has come from regional
interest -> development...
