Quick update...
Michigan raises another banner at the Joe and takes home the Mason Cup
after defeating Miami, 2-1. The Wolverines will take the #1 overall
seed for the NCAA tournament and most likely be sent to the East
Regional in Albany to face Niagara. The NCAA selection show is
tomorrow.
The Wolverines got goals from Aaron Palushaj and Brandon Naurato.
Miami scored with 38.6 seconds left in regulation during an empty net
power play, but the Wolverines hung on.
Michigan turned in an outstanding performance tonight, especially the
third period when the defense just shut down the RedHawks. Miami
outshot U-M 21-12 through two periods, but by the end of the game the
shots were around 26 a piece, so the Wolverines really bombarded Jeff
Zatkoff during the third period and held the RedHawks to almost nothing.
There was one scary moment during the first period when Chad Kolarik
went to stop in the corner and turn around and he tweaked his left
leg--the injured leg--and fell to the ice in pain. It was like deja
vu of the LSSU game when he tore his hamstring. He was carried off
the ice grimacing in pain and limped to the locker room, but he sucked
it up and came back to the ice a few minutes later and finished the
game.
Tim Miller was named the Most Valuable Player after finishing the
weekend with two goals and two assists. Below is the All-Tournament
Team:
Matt Siddall - Northern Michigan - Forward
Ryan Jones - Miami - Forward
Tim Miller - Michigan - Forward
Alec Martinez - Miami - Defenseman
Mark Mitera - Michigan - Defenseman
Jeff Zatkoff - Miami - Goaltender
A lot of U-M fans booed the Zatkoff selection, but he deserves it.
Billy Sauer was outstanding in net tonight, too, but Zatkoff
absolutely robbed Kevin Porter twice and Ben Winnett on a clear
breakaway, among other great chances. Plus, he didn't give up four
goals yesterday.

I did another live game blog on my website if you were unable to watch
or listen to the game and want to read through all the details.
That's all for now...
Go Blue!
