Quick update...
Michigan 6, Northern Michigan 4
Michigan advances to the CCHA Championship after a come from behind
6-4 victory over Northern Michigan. The Wolverines will face the Miami
RedHawks for the Mason Cup.
It was a hard fought back and forth physical contest as neither team
could shake the other up to the very end.
Travis Turnbull led the attack with a pair of goals, but really it was
all about the bounces tonight as Michigan scored at least three goals
either directly off or assisted by NMU players.
Michigan outshot the Wildcats 42-22, with U-M holding NMU to just
eight shots on goal after two periods. But NMU scored on three of
their first six shots to take a 3-2 lead after two periods.
Billy Sauer struggled in net controlling rebounds and really seemed to
be fighting it all night. That?s not to say all the goals were his
fault, though, because they weren?t. Michigan?s defense was sloppy and
gave up several bad turnovers behind their own net, as well as some
other lazy play, that led to NMU scoring chances and goals.
If you were unable to watch or listen to tonight's game, I kept an
live game blog on MHNet that you can read through, and I will do so
again tomorrow night.
