Quick Update...
Michigan 3, Notre Dame 2
Louie Caporusso scored with 21 seconds left in the third period to cap
off a thrilling 3-2 come from behind victory for Michigan over Notre
Dame.
The Wolverines started the toughest stretch of their schedule on their
heels as the Irish came out storming and had their first good scoring
opportunity just 23 seconds into the game. They would continue to
dominate and jump out to a 2-0 lead six minutes into the game on goals
by Kevin Deeth and Justin White.
Michigan finally started to get things going late in the opening
stanza and after matching minors with 42 seconds left, the Irish took
another penalty to give U-M a 4-on-3 to start the second period.
It took Kevin Porter just 21 seconds into the second period to
capitalize on the power play and bring the team and crowd to life.
With 7:55 left in the period, freshman Matt Rust beat Irish goalie
Jordan Pearce to tie the game.
Looking to keep their momentum goalie, the Wolverines got hit with
their biggest challenge when defenseman Chris Summers was given an
early exit for checking from behind--a five minute major and game
misconduct--just 2:19 into the third period.
The Wolverines killed off 4:13 of it before the Irish took a penalty
to negate the rest. Michigan would take one more penalty and kill it
off, then really applied pressure the rest of the way before Caporusso
sealed it late.
The Wolverines and Irish will finish the weekend series tomorrow night
at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and can be
seen on Comcast Local.
PATCH OUT: Freshman forward Max Pacioretty did not play for the second
consecutive game. Patch injured his shoulder during last Friday's win
against Western Michigan and sat out Saturday's contest. No word yet
on how long he might be out.
