Quick update...
For the first time since 2002, the Michigan hockey team will not be
swept at the annual College Hockey Showcase. The Wolverines battled
back from a 2-0 first period deficit to defeat Wisconsin, 4-3, in
Madison.
Andrew Cogliano had a goal and two assists, while T.J. Hensick and
Kevin Porter each pitched in two points.
Mike Davies put the Badgers ahead 1-0 midway through the first period,
then Jack Skille scored a late shorthanded goal to make it 2-0 heading
into intermission.
The Wolverines would strike 1:19 into the second period to cut the
lead in half. Tim Miller beat Wisconsin goalie Brian Elliott, with
assists to Cogliano and Chad Kolarik.
Hensick would tie the game at 10:55 on the power play, but the Badgers
would retake the lead just under three minutes later when Matthew Ford
beat Billy Sauer.
They would hold the lead until 8:25 of the third period when David
Rohlfs and Andrew Cogliano would score 27 seconds apart to put the
Wolverines on top 4-3.
The Badgers would apply a lot of pressure during the final 30 seconds,
but Sauer made a pair of saves in the closing moments to preserve the
win. He would finish the game with 34 saves.
The Wolverines will travel up the road to Minneapolis tomorrow night
to face the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who defeated Michigan State 5-4
tonight. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports North.
