Michigan 7, Western Michigan 3
Chad Kolarik and Danny Fardig each had a pair of goals as Michigan comes back
from a two goal deficit to defeat Western Michigan 7-3 Tuesday night at Yost.
Down 2-0 early in the second period following goals by Jeff Lovecchio and Reid
Yantzi, the Wolverines struck three times in a 2:44 span during the middle of
the second period to take the lead. Kolarik scored at 7:05, followed by Fardig
at 9:14, then Kolarik again at 9:49.
Brian Bicek would tie the game for the Broncos just under two minutes later, but
Brandon Kaleniecki would give U-M the lead again before intermission.
Kevin Porter made it a 5-3 game six minutes into the third period, then Fardig
and Brandon Naurato scored 32 seconds apart late in the period to ice the game.
The win moves the Wolverines into a second place tie with Lake Superior State in
the CCHA with one game in hand over the Lakers.
The bad news of the night, however, was the returning Jason Bailey got knocked
out once again. Bailey, who suffered a rib cage injury following at hard check
at Michigan State two weeks ago, returned to the lineup last night only to get
nailed hard again and hit his ribs on the boards, reportedly knocking him
unconscious according to Michael Spath over at Rivals. He was said to be doing
better after the game, but still disoriented, and most likely won't play against
Ohio State this weekend.
The Wolverines hit the ice this weekend with a big home series against Ohio
State. Saturday night will be Maize Out 2006. I'm not sure if there's
anything special planned by the University or CSTV, like when Fox Sports
Detroit handed out maize colored shirts to everyone last year.
