Just a quick update...
Michigan shuts out Alaska Fairbanks 4-0 to kick off the second half of play. U-M's goals were scored by Danny Fardig, Jason Bailey, Chad Kolarik, and Matt Hunwick. Billy Sauer celebrated his 18th birthday with his first career blanking.
Tempers started to flare near the end of the game and essentially a wrestling match broke out among several players. Thankfully no one was given any game disqualifications.
More good news tonight as Northern Michigan defeats Miami, 2-1, to help U-M gain ground on the CCHA race.
All the players returning from the World Junior Championships played in tonight's game. Speaking of which, if you haven't heard, Andrew Cogliano had a pair of assists to help Team Canada capture the gold medal with a 5-0 shutout of Russia. Team USA, meanwhile, finished a disappointing fourth place, falling to Finland 4-2 in the bronze medal game. Jack Johnson scored for the U.S. to tie the game 2-2 midway through the third period, but Finland responded with two goals in the next five minutes to pull away.
