LEBLER COMMITS FOR '06
Penticton Vees (BCHL) forward Brian Lebler has verbally commited to
Michigan for the 2006 season.
Lebler, 17, is 6'2 and 205 pounds. He is the youngest player on the
Vees roster and one of two 1988-born player on the squad. So far
this season he has registered nine goals and 14 points in 21
games.
Lebler had narrowed his choices to U-M, Ohio State, and Wisconsin, where
his father Ed won a national championship. According to the
Wisconsin State Journal, Brian's mother Mary said that she and her
husband prefer Brian attend Wisconsin "but the decision has to be
from him."
Brian's told the WSJ today that his decision "was more of a gut
feeling sort of thing. Both places were going to be an unreal place
to play. It was more like I felt more comfortable (at Michigan)
with the team and the coaches and stuff like that. I felt like it was my
place to play."
COGLIANO NAMED CCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman forward Andrew Cogliano has been named the CCHA Rookie of
the Week.
Cogliano had two goals and two assists in Friday's 8-5 win at Notre Dame,
and he added another goal and assist in Saturday's 4-2 victory.
He now leads all freshmen in the nation with 15 points in nine games.
HILBERT SHIPPED TO CHICAGO
Former Wolverine star Andy Hilbert finally got his wish. The Boston
Bruins shipped their disgruntled prospect off to the Chicago Blackhawks
in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Hilbert, a 2nd round pick of the Bruins in 2000, left the University of
Michigan in 2001 following his sophomore year when told Boston had
penciled him in to their lineup. Upon arriving in Boston, however,
Hilbert soon found himself playing for their AHL affiliate the Providence
P-Bruins, where he has spent the better part of the past three seasons.
He has seen action in 38 NHL games and posted three goals and three
assists, while in the AHL he has been a top scorer for the
P-Bruins.
Unhappy with his lack of opportunity with the parent club, despite being
the leading scorer of the P-Bruins last season, and apparently unhappy
with the contract he was offered, Hilbert demanded a trade before the
season and has not played a game this year.

For those of you coming up north for the weekend, it's looking like the
rain and snow might hold off for a little sunshine, so it should be nice
if that holds. I am definitely looking forward to the Wolverines
coming up here!
I will give a little warning to watch what you leave in your car,
however. NMU's campus has been having a big problem with people
smashing windows and stealing things this semester and last night I
became the latest victim of this problem. Nothing like getting off
work at 1 a.m. to discover your rear window completely shattered, only in
my case nothing was stolen (didn't have anything of value in
there). They caught one person last week, but obviously it's still
an ongoing problem, so if you happen to be around campus at night just be
aware of what you leave in sight.

That's all for now...
Go Blue!
