Michigan 4, Notre Dame 2
The Wolverines used three power play goals and pulled away in the second
period to sweep Notre Dame, 4-2.
Andrew Cogliano started the scoring with a power play goal five minutes
into the opening period. But the Irish came back and scored the next two
goals to take a 2-1 lead.
With 13 seconds left in the period, the Wolverines went on the power play
and had a faceoff in the Notre Dame zone. They won it, got the puck on net
and Kolarik put it in with five seconds left to tie the game heading into
intermission.
In the second period, it was Kolarik again on the power play on a great
feed from Cogliano putting the Wolverines ahead. Just seconds after the
goal, T.J. Hensick put in a backhander to make it 4-2.
Notre Dame put 17 shots on goal in the third period and Billy Sauer turned
them all aside. He finished the night with 27 saves, while Jordan Pearce
had 25 for the Irish.
Jack Johnson and Kevin Porter each had a pair of assists.
Michigan heads up north to Marquette to face the struggling Northern
Michigan Wildcats, who were swept by Michigan State in East Lansing
tonight. NMU will be coming full force trying to rebound after a pair of
losses, and they play much better at home on the big Olympic-size ice.
