Got this off the USHL website yesterday:
Sauer rings in New Year
by R.J. Dusak
BENSENVILLE, IL-The Chicago Steel are pleased to announce goaltender Billy Sauer
has verbally committed to the University of Michigan for next season. Sauer, a
native of Rochester, New York, chose Michigan over Boston University, Boston
College, Cornell, Bowling Green, Ohio State and other schools. Sauer, the
youngest member of the Steel at 16 years old, becomes the ninth member of the
Steel to make his college commitment, forty-eighth in team history. Billy has
already begun accelerating his High School classes for early graduation and
plans to enroll at Michigan next fall.. Sauer looks to be the apparent heir for
Al Montoya, who was drafted in the first round of last years NHL Entry Draft by
the NY Rangers and looks to join the NHL next season.
Billy has posted impressive numbers as one of the youngest members of the United
States Hockey League. Nine wins, two shutouts, a 2.59 goals against average and
a .912 save percentage in 17 games.
Last season, while a member of the Buffalo Saints Midget Program, Sauer lead his
team to a National Championship. As a member of the Wolverines, Billy will join
a program highly regarded for their goaltending.
--------------------------
Gathering info online, Sauer is said to be one of the top '88-born Division I
goalie prospects. He'll be celebrating his 17th birthday in just a few days on
Jan. 6. Sauer stands 6'2, 165-pounds according to the Chicago Steel roster and
hails from Rochester, NY. He plays a butterfly style in net.
And if you haven't heard by now, two more forwards committed to U-M over the
holidays--Ann Arbor native Dan Fardig and Livonia native Brandon Naurato.
Fardig is no stranger to Yost Ice Arena. His father Don and his uncle David
played for the Wolverines, so he has been around and watching U-M all his life.
Fardig currently plays for the U.S. NTDP Under-17 team as an 18 year old. He
has also played a handful of games with the Under-18 team this season. The
5'11, 191-pound forward considers himself a high energy type player who does all
the little things that don't show up on the scoresheet.
Naurato, 6'1 and 185-pounds, plays for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL along with
future teammate Tim Miller. He won three state championships with Detroit
Catholic Central, the same high school attended by David Moss and Brandon
Kaleniecki. He has posted 12 goals and 5 assists in 20 games this season with
the Lancers. An older recruit, Naurato will enter college as a 20-year-old.
From what I have heard, Naurato will enter college on a scholarship, while
Fardig will be a walk-on. The Wolverines have one more scholarship for next
fall and it currently has Phil Kessel's name on it.

That's all for now...
Go Blue!
