WOLVERINES STORM BACK IN 8-3 ROUT
U-M scores eight unanswered

Eight is great for the Michigan hockey team.

For the second game in a row the Wolverines posted eight goals, as
they came from behind to rout Bowling Green, 8-3.

Sophomore defenseman Matt Hunwick netted his first career hat trick,
while T.J. Hensick continued to roll with a pair of goals and an
assist, and Brandon Rogers added three more assists.

It wasn't pretty at all early on for the Wolverines as the Falcons
came storming out and scored three times in the first 10:38 of the
contest.

Steve Brudzewski opened it at 4:37 on a shot that deflected off
Wolverine Kevin Porter's stick and over goalie Al Montoya's
shoulder. Alex Rogosheske scored shorthanded at 7:53, and Brudzewski
netted his second of the game at 10:38 to make it 3-0.

The game was resembling the Minnesota contest of a few weeks ago in
which nothing seemed to go the Wolverines way. Brandon Rogers missed
an open net, then early in the second period Eric Nystrom had a slam
dunk chance but the puck bounced over his stick.

But right after Nystrom's miss, the game would take a total 180
degree turn. As fast as BGSU scored their goals in the opening
period, Michigan would respond in the second period.

At 5:31 of the second period, Milan Gajic found Brandon Kaleniecki
for the one-timer past BGSU goalie Jordan Sigalet on the power play.

Then 3:09 later on the power play again, after a couple of chances by
U-M, Chad Kolarik found Hunwick, and he fired a shot that beat an out
of position Sigalet to make it 3-2. Just 26 seconds later Gajic
would tie it up going five hole.

Michigan continued the assault 1:09 in to the third period when
Hensick scored the game-winning goal. Hunwick netted his second of
the night 1:49 later with a one-timer beating Sigalet. And Kevin
Porter then scored for the right team at 6:28.

Noah Ruden took over netminding duties with 6:14 remaining in the
game, and the Wolverines decided to put a few more pucks in the net.

Hensick added his second of the night with 4:57 remaining. Then
Hunwick capped off the 8-0 run with his hat trick goal with 2:23 left.

The Wolverines outshot the Falcons 38-23, holding BGSU to just three
shots in the third period. U-M went 3-for-8 on the power play, while
BGSU was 0-for-5.

The weekend series wraps up tomorrow night at Bowling Green. The
puck drops at 7:05 p.m. ET.

--------------

Fun fact for the night... I work at a PBS station and we're in our
fundraising period. Michigan's first three goals of the third period
were scored during one pledge break. When we started another pledge
break, I jokingly told a Michigan hockey friend online, "Pledge
break... time to score again!" Literally about five seconds later
Hensick scored, then Hunwick got the hat trick. It was all about the
Power of the Pledge Break tonight! Hopefully it'll works it magic
again tomorrow night, too.

That's all for now...

Go Blue!
