Quick update from work...
UNO shocked #1 seed Michigan 3-1 at Yost Ice Arena tonight and with the loss probably any shot at a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. The Mavericks played the trap perfectly and their players blocked as many shots as goalie Chris Holt. U-M held a 30-27 advantage in shots on goal, though watching the final two periods it seemed UNO played more of a waiting game for U-M to make a mistake and capitalize on it.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first period, then UNO got a fluky goal in the second period when Montoya lost the puck in his legs and it trickled into the net. Then in the third period, UNO scored a breakaway goal.
Michigan had plenty of power play opportunities, but as said, UNO didn't allow them any quality shots on goal and their players would collapse and block many Wolverine shots.
Game three is tomorrow night at Yost.
Michigan wasn't the only team upset tonight. Boston University upset rival Boston College to win their series 2-1. Michigan Tech is currently leading North Dakota 3-1 in the third period. Western Michigan is up 3-0 on Notre Dame late in the third period. Colorado College is beating Denver 3-0 after the first period. Miami and LSSU are tied 1-1 in overtime.
Other CCHA action...Ferris State has blown a 3-0 lead. Michigan State is winning 4-3 late in the third period after a major third period rally. Ohio State won their series with a 5-2 win over Bowling Green.
