Quick late night update...

Michigan's seven-game winning streak has come to an end as Alaska Fairbanks
outgunned the Wolverines, 5-3.

The Nanooks scored three unanswered goals to cap their victory.

U-M lost two leads during the game. Andrew Ebbett scored the game's
opening goal midway through the first period, but just a few minutes later
during a UAF penalty for, you guessed it, goaltender interference, the
Nanooks' Ryan Campbell tied the game with a shorthanded goal. Campbell
then gave UAF the lead early in the second period.

Michigan suffered a loss as Jason Ryznar took a high stick to the ear early
in the second period and left the game. The referees missed the penalty,
too (but shortly thereafter called a "make up" penalty bench minor on
UAF). He was bleeding very bad from what the announcers said. He wouldn't
return to the game until late in the third period, and the announcers said
they probably had to wash off his jersey because you could still see blood
stains all over the front.

The Wolverines then stormed back midway through the second stanza with a
pair of goals 46 seconds apart. Milan Gajic ripped a shot five hole at
9:11, assisted by Jeff Tambellini. Then Nick Martens scored on a
wrap-around moments later.

UAF tied the game a few minutes later on the power play when Jason
Grinevitch floated a shot from the point that dropped in just under the
crossbar.

The Nanooks took the lead for good 6:46 into the third period when Kelly
Czuy tipped a shot by Aaron Voros past Al Montoya. Tom Herman finished off
the scoring with 4:13 to play on a two-on-one breakaway.

The Wolverines return home next weekend for a huge weekend series against
CCHA leader Miami. The RedHawks swept Notre Dame tonight with a 2-0
victory, and they lead Michigan by three points in the CCHA standings
(though Michigan still has two games in hand). Definitely the biggest
series of the season-to-date coming up for the Wolverines.

All-Stars in today's NHL All-Star Game!

That's all for now...
