Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco will get the starting nod for the Western Conference in the 2004 NHL All-Star Game. The game will be played Sunday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. ET at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN.
Turco was tops among Western Conference goalies receiving 79,305 votes. It's his second consecutive appearance and first start. Last year Turco played outstanding in the third period, overtime, and won the game in the shootout allowing just one goal. Had it not been for Dany Heatley's super performance, Turco definitely could have won the All-Star MVP award.
The rest of the Western Conference starting line-up is Mike Modano (Dallas), Bill Guerin (Dallas), Todd Bertuzzi (Vancouver), Nicklas Lidstrom (Detroit), and Rob Blake (Colorado).
Starting for the Eastern Conference is Ilya Kovalchuk (Atlanta), Joe Thornton (Boston), Martin St. Louis (Tampa Bay), Scott Stevens (New Jersey), Scott Niedermayer (New Jersey), and Martin Brodeur (New Jersey).
The remaining players will be announced Thursday, Jan. 22 during ESPN's Thursday Night Hockey.
