If you've been living under a rock and haven't heard by now, Team USA captured the gold medal for the first time ever at the World Junior Championships. They scored three unanswered third period goals to stun Team Canada, 4-3.
Al Montoya backstopped the team to a perfect 6-0-0 record and was named the tournament's Best Goaltender. Matt Hunwick also played for Team USA. Jeff Tambellini comes home with the silver medal, which Team Canada has made a habit of winning. Canada has won silver the past three years.
They weren't the only Wolverines competing in holiday tournaments. Some future 2005 recruits were competing at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Canada.
Top Canadian prospect Andrew Cogliano led Team Ontario to the gold medal, defeating Team Pacific 5-2 in the finals. Cogliano, an alternate captain, had a goal and two assists in that game, and overall he had five goals and seven assists. He was second in tournament scoring behind Team Pacific's Gilbert Brule, who had 13 points.
Meanwhile, Team USA finished fourth at the tournament, losing 3-2 to Team Quebec in the bronze medal game.
Top defensive prospect and team captain Jack Johnson had three goals and a helper. Defenseman Mark Mitera had a goal and two assists. And forward Zach MacVoy recorded one goal and one assist.
The 2005 class also got an addition today. According to Michael Spath at TheWolverine.com, right winger Jason Bailey has verbally committed to the Wolverines.
Bailey, born 6/4/87, stands 6'1, 205 pounds and is in his rookie season with the Nepean Raiders Junior A Hockey Club of the Central Junior Hockey League in Canada. He is seventh among rookie scorers with 9-9-18 in 24 games, and he was a second round pick of the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League.
Nepean is currently atop the Yzerman Division with a 25-8-1 record, and they are the defending CJHL champions.

I know my website hasn't been updated in a while. I'm debating what I want to do with it since I've neglected it so much this season. I am thinking of just going with the message board and posting all the news there. It's a lot easier, and quicker, to update that way, and since it's all open forum, anyone can sign up and post any news they come across as well. Maybe we can finally get some good discussion going, too.

That's all for now...
