WEEKEND PREVIEW: No. 6 Michigan vs. Quinnipiac
By Jason Paul
October 16, 2003
The Michigan hockey returns to Yost Ice Arena this weekend to host the
Quinnipiac Bobcats of the Atlantic Hockey Conference in nonconference
action. U-M defeated Atlantic Hockey foe Mercyhurst, 5-3, to open the season.
The Wolverines will be in search of some offense before their big home
series against Northern Michigan the following weekend. Last week in Miami,
the Wolverines scored just five goals. When you look at how talented this
team is on paper, five goals is what you expect them to be scoring every game.
Michigan will still be without junior forward Jason Ryznar, who is still
out with a nagging shoulder injury. However, CCHA Rookie of the Week David
Rohlfs will play this weekend. Rohlfs had two goals against Miami, but went
head first into the endboard after his second goal and suffered a
concussion. Thankfully, it wasn't too serious and he has been practicing
all week.
U-M IN THE MINUS
Though very early in the season, looking at Michigan's stats after three
games, I still can't remember the last time over half the team had a minue
plus/minus rating. Only three Wolverines--Andrew Ebbett, Milan Gajic, and
Joe Kautz--have a +1 or better rating.
THIRD PERIOD MELTDOWN
Last week I showed the stat of how last season Michigan greatly outscored
their opponents in the first two periods (something like 120-50) but the
third period was almost dead even and they didn't need to go down that path
again. Well, in three games this season, U-M has already been outscored 8-3
in the third period (most of those from the third period meltdown against
Miami). Hopefully they can stop the bleeding and turn that around.
ON THE AIR
Friday's game will be broadcast on the New England Sports Network. You can
also listen to both games online at MGoBlue.com or by clicking here.

THE RED BERENSON SHOW
---------------------------------------------
Since I've been asked about this, my initial answer to some was that I
wouldn't be able to archive the Red Berenson Show this season because the
old hidden WTKA link through U-M was cut off.
However, I just discovered that real audio link on MGoBlue.com's hockey
page broadcasts WTKA live all day (last season they only aired WTKA during
the games then cut the feed).
So, for those of you wanting to listen to the RBS live, head to MGoBlue.com
on Tuesday and click on the "click here to listen live" link at the top of
the hockey page. I'll also try to put a direct link on my website. And if
you miss the show, I'll try to start archiving them again next week.
And, if you miss a show or if I miss a show, you can also find The Red
Berenson Show archives at thewolverine.com

That's all for now...
