Danny Richmond spoke with Morris Dalla Costa of the London Free Press
discussing his departure from Michigan. According to the article, Richmond
gave two reasons for leaving... No. 1 because he likes to win, and No. 2 he
wants to play in the National Hockey League.
I guess someone forgot to remind Danny that the Wolverines went 30-10-3 and
came within an eye lash of the NCAA championship game last season, but I
suppose that's now considered a losing season, huh?
Here's a few quotes from Richmond in the article:
On reasons for leaving...
"Every year, you have to re-evaluate your situation. You set goals where
you want to be in a year or two and figure out a plan to attack. I figured
this would be the best place for me to get to where I want to play and to win.
"I could have been drafted in the ninth round or not drafted at all. It
doesn't really matter where you are drafted or who drafted you. You've got
to play in a situation where you are most comfortable, where you can win
and where it can get you to the NHL, and London's that place for me."
On why he left so late in summer...
"It was put together in the last couple of weeks. I was asked, 'Why so
late, why so late?' But I never had a chance to think about it until I went
on vacation and realized this is where I wanted to be.
"The coaching staff (at Michigan) said they heard rumours. They wanted to
win. They have guys leaving every year. But they didn't expect this. It was
something I had to do.
More on leaving...
"I think the game situation will help me. In college we had a lot more
practices than games. You're not a player in practice. You can be the best
player in the world in practice but if you can do anything in the game,
it's not going to help you win."

That's all for now...
