Just a quick update...
MICHIGAN 2, MAINE 1
Yost magic!
Simply put, another classic between Michigan and Maine, and now the streak is over!
Jed Ortmeyer scored a power play goal with 1:30 left in regulation as Michigan defeats Maine, 2-1, to advance to the Midwest Regional final.
It's the first time Michigan has ever beaten Maine in the NCAA tournament. They were 0-3 heading into this afternoon's game.
The Wolverines will face Colorado College, who had their hands full earlier in the day en route to beating Wayne State, 4-2.
With the game scoreless after two periods, Eric Nystrom broke the deadlock just over seven minutes into the third period right as a Maine power play expired. Mike Woodford drew the assist on the goal.
Some people can say what they will about Nystrom not being a big goal scorer this season after a successful freshman year, but if there's one thing he does well, it's come up big in clutch situations.
The Black Bears tied the game with 3:54 remaining in regulation when Colin Shields one-timed a pass from Martin Kariya past U-M goalie Al Montoya.
But the Wolverines stormed back and applied the pressure, causing Travis White to take a holding penalty with 1:57 left.
Shortly thereafter, Ortmeyer put in a rebound past Maine goalie Frank Doyle for the game winner.
Both goalies came up with several huge saves, but in the end it was Montoya coming out on top.
Michigan and Colorado College faceoff tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET.
