TAMBELLINI, ORTMEYER HONORED AT CCHA AWARDS
March 19, 2003
The annual CCHA Awards Banquet was held tonight at the Fox Theatre
in Detroit and two Michigan hockey players walked away with
individual honors.
In no surprise, freshman forward Jeff Tambellini took home the CCHA
Rookie of the Year award. He led all CCHA freshmen in goals and
points in both overall and conference games, and he was named the
CCHA Rookie of the Week a league-high four times this season.
Tambellini is the first Wolverine freshman to lead U-M in goal
scoring since 1988-89, and he is the eighth Wolverine to be voted
the league's top rookie.
In somewhat of a surprise, senior captain Jed Ortmeyer was named the
CCHA's Best Defensive Forward. He is the first Wolverine since John
Madden in 1997 to capture the honor.
Ortmeyer is considered the heart and soul of the Wolverines, always
giving 110 percent. He has recorded 10 goals and 11 assists in
conference play in addition to a +11 rating.
Ortmeyer has helped anchor Wolverines penalty-killing unit which led
the nation most of the season.
We've always known Jed as one of the hardest working players on the
ice every game, and it's wonderful to see him get the recognition he
deserves.

That's all for now...
