KOMO-SEE-YA!
Top defenseman bolts for Montreal

Another Michigan hockey summer...
A few weeks ago the Michigan hockey coaches were very confident that a
newspaper article in the Montreal Gazette stating Mike Komisarek was
leaving was false and that he would return for his junior season. Today,
they're left with a major hole to fill.
Red Berenson announced that Komisarek will forego his final two years of
eligibility to sign with the Montreal Canadians. Komisarek is expected to
sign the contract tomorrow.
"We're very disappointed to have Komisarek leave the team at this time,"
said Berenson. "He has had two solid years at Michigan, and he leaves a
huge hole on our team that cannot be filled at this late date."
Komisarek's early departure, combined with the loss of Jay Vancik to
graduation, leaves the Wolverines without their top line of defense from
this past season. But all is not lost as they still return a solid group
with Eric Werner and Andy Burnes leading the blueline, and hopefully big
things to come from freshman Danny Richmond.
Komisarek was the seventh overall selection in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and
Montreal's first choice.
This past season he led the Wolverines defense with 11 goals and 19 assists
in 40 games. His domination on the blueline earned him honors as the CCHA's
Best Defensive Defenseman, the 2001-02 All-CCHA First Team, the JOFA/AHCA
All-America West First Team, and the 2002 NCAA West Regional All-Tournament
team.

Well, son of a bitch.
That's all for now...
Go Blue!
