Hi.

Last year i have sewn a harness i can attach to my handlebar. This harness let
me use a 10L dry bag in front. It give me a setup similar to Carousel Design
Work (Pretty amazing bags!) front bag. I strap this harness to my On-One Mary
handlebar. Works great.

I have sewn a similar one for my wife. She was using a flat handlebar. It seem i
can't attach the harness correctly. I can't even bring the harness/bag near the
handlebar enough for securing it correctly. I have switched her handlebar over
to riser bar. It works great.

Can a setup like CDW front bag work with flat handlebar?

What do you put into your front CDW bags? Some talk about bedroll. How wide and
how big are your bedroll? What'S inside? It seem i can only go as big as my 10L
bag since i use a front suspension onto my 29er.

Thanks!

I used a CDW bag for the divide last year but it was on a Mary bar. However I am
now running it on a bar with very little rise (syntace vector low rise) but 12
degres of sweep and it works great. The only thing to be mindful of is cable
routing which was better on the Mary because of the angles. Also, jeff does
custom, so whatever your need, I'm sure he can make it work.

Hi Mary!

Dave Nice tells me congratulations are in order for you. :-)

I remember seeing some photos of Jeff's (Carousel Design) bike in which he ran the cables over the bar as opposed to under the bar so the bag didn't interfere with the cables.  The Tour Divide riders that have been through haven't been doing this though.   Just an idea for anyone having issues using a flat bar if cable routing is an issue.  It probably will mean running longer cables though.

Of the Divide racers that have stopped here more of them have been using Eric's bags than Jeff's.  Kurt Refsnider had the harness bag arrangement on his bike and I was extremely impressed.  It allows you to use  whatever size stuff sack you choose and gives you the ability to pop it off without undoing any straps.

I'd say you can't go wrong with either bag maker but I want that handlebar harness, don't know if Jeff would make one of those or not.
