Coincidentally I did a solo tour up Vancouver Island
and down the BC mainland two weeks ago and it WAS
wonderful. But it turned out to be ultra-heavy. I
bought a Bob trailer for the tandem which we used in
our Montreal-Halifax tour a month ago. I think a Bob
on a tandem is almost a no-brainer as the additional
weight (and even length) is not very significant. But
on a single, it is a bit different! I did Pender,
Saltspring and Denman - all hilly, and there are a few
hills north of Nanaimo, and worse ones on the mainland
side South of Powell River. Halfway through the tour I
realized that I was actually carrying virtually the
same weight as we did on the tandem - only the
girlfriend's Prolite and down bag were missing. I
weighed it when I got home and the loaded Bob was 55
lbs while I had 12lbs more in the bike. I rode about
500kms. But I was a lot stronger at the end!
So NEXT time, I WILL go ultralight! But I do recoomend
that tour route.

My summer has been TOO busy, both playing and working.
Patti and I
did a week long tour up the Canadian coast starting in

time to do a
write up on it. Great trip though.
