Re: [ultralightbiking] Moderator

I certainly do. I was waiting for the new "light-tourer" to arrive
before I posted any info on it or the trip. But what the heck... a
little sneak preview...

The Bike: A couple weeks ago I ordered a Marinoni Ciclo frame. It's
made with columbus zona (light gauge steel) and has a carbon fork. I
ordered it with custom geometry and custom paint scheme through bike
specialties here in Toronto for $825CAD which IMO is a steal for a
custom frame.
It's meant to be my tourer/long distance bike. I'm building it up
with shimano 105 components... except for the crank which i've swapped
out for nashbar's 'treking' model (48-38-28). The wheels are velocity
aeroheads laced up to 105 hubs 36 in the rear and 32 in the front.
I'll be running 28mm gatorskin tires.
Here's a link to a pic of the bike (You'll have to imagine it with
completely different parts and completely different paint scheme :-)
http://www.marinoni.qc.ca/html/2005/05_en_ciclo.asp
I'll be sure to post pics when it arrives.

The Setup: I'll be using rear rack and panniers. Together weighing in
at a beefy 5 pounds empty it is not the lightest setup ever. The
Panniers are the serratus aqua-nots seen here:
http://tinyurl.com/b6m2r ... They're made from Uretek and each have a
solid plastic frame sheet. The setup can easily be described as bomb
proof and/or overkill all in the same sentence. I'll probably look
into replacing them with a lighter home made solution at some time.
For shelter I use a Hennessey hammock... as well as the regular
assortment lightweight camping gear. My sleeping bag is synthetic and
could use replacement with a nice quilt style down bag, which would
save some weight and space.
When I get the whole set up ironed out I'll post some weight stats.

The Trip(s): Following a series of smaller weekend shakedown tours, In
august I'm doing a week long trip starting in Tobermory on the Bruce
Peninsula (Ontario) I'll be taking the ferry across to Manatoulin
Island where I'll be touring around for a couple of days before
heading towards Killarney provinicial park where I'll explore the
surrounding area before heading back towards Tobermory. I plan on
'stealth camping' for at least half the tour which will be a first for
me. Come to think of it that's something we haven't talked much about
here. Anyone else do stealth camping in favour of staying at what I
like to call "camping ghetto's"?

Though less stealthy, I've had good luck, especially in smaller towns, camping on schoolgrounds or behind police/fire stations. All have nice grass (make sure...
