We've been planning this seriously now for about a month and we are
leaving this Thursday. I posted two pics of my "rig" in the Photos
section. To give you an idea of how this is supposed to go.
The front bag you see I can guesstimate the weight based on what I know
to be inside. The bags on each side essentially weigh the same and a
very ballpark estimate of the total is about 15.3 lbs. I made the top
bag the heaviest since that is the one that will least affect side to
side imbalance. The bag in the front in the side view picture contains a
tent (Tarptent Cloudburst with sewn in extended flooring) inside a very
small garbage bag, a WM Ultralite sleeping bag in its stuff sack (it was
too hard to get the sleeping bag into the "sticky" dry bag) all inside a
Seattle Sports Hydro Venture Explorer Dry Bag (size Small). The dry bag
weighs 10oz. The tent weighs approximately 39 oz. and the WM sleeping
bag weighs 26 oz. for an approximate total of 76 oz. or 4.75 pounds (I
added an oz for the garbage bag and the rope to tie it). The rope is a
50' length of Dyneema AirCore with a total weight of 2.6 oz.
Already I know that the WM sleeping bag is too heavy. Although the
forecast for the trip seems VERY rainy, the lowest temps are in the
50's. I made myself a silk sleeping sack that weighs about 4 oz. (its in
the other bag with the sleeping pad and extra clothes) and I think Ill
pretty much be happy in that. Later Ill post more pics, a "before trip"
packing list and before trip weights if I can get them more accurately.
