There is kind of collection of stuff up there! On my
handlebars I've got a Jandd Handle Pak. It's designed
to mount facing the rider, placing the weight right
over the steering axis. It's got a volume of 218 ci
(3.6 liters). I use it to hold my main stash of food
and my camera. On top of this pack I have a map holder
that is really just a nylon pencil case with a clear
window. I use this case to carry my map (wrapped in
a plastic baggie) and a notebook and pen.
I have a homebrew extension that is kind of like a
Minoura Space Grip that is made from a couple of
pieces of wood lashed to my stem. On this extension
I have my Cateye EL500 headlight and Cateye Enduro
cyclecomputer.
Underneath the handlebars I have a Sealine Drybag that
contains my Golite Fur sleeping bag. Strapped to the
drybag is waterproof transparent plastic envelope that
contains a Brunton solar panel. The panel charges 4 AA
NiMH AA cells. When the batteries get low in my main
headlight, I swap the AA cells from the headlight with
the ones from the solar charger. With my current commute
I swap them once a week or so, but on the Divide race I'll
probably wind up swapping them every couple of days.
