Looks like the longest stretch between towns on Hwy 50 is between Eureka and Ruth, about 75 miles. If you want to carry 8 liters you could take two 3L platys strapped to the rack and a 2L strapped to a bottle cage on the frame. Though it's a bit too much water IMO. I would take 6 liters at the most strapped to aero bars, though if you drink 1 liter in town before you leave you can take 5L. You can drink 1L when you arrive in Ruth so you can carry 4L total. You can strap platypus bottles to the bottle cages on the frame. 2L and 2.5L fit well I'm not sure about 3L ones. I would stay away from 4L platypus bottles, especially if they have a zipper or zipp-lock. In your case I would take two 2 liter platipus bottles strapped to the bottle cages with velcro, duct tape, etc. The rest I would carry in my jersey pockets
in store bottles (0.7 to 1L each)
