Good post,it is really motivating reading others trip reports as well
as seeing pictures of light/ultralight or unconventional touring
setups in action or even just people plans or what they have been doing.
As for myself,I went on a three week bike tour around Florida this
spring where I spent about half the time backpacking in two national
forests.Had a blast but that seemed to have cured me of my wanderlust
for a while as I have not as much as done an overnighter since then.
I really prefer to go by feel and while I actually had ideas of
touring up to the southern Appalachians this fall I just as of yet
have not felt like actually doing it.I operate best having several
ideas of trips I want to do in mind and when the impulse strikes just
go with the flow and head out.Up to now that has mostly been
overnighters and long weekends but since this summer I am in a better
position to do longer trips ,but ironically as said as of yet have
just not felt like setting out(though being car free I do a lot of
loaded local biking thus staying in tour ready condition).
Having said that, I envision finally breaking down and purchasing some
lighter biking/hiking gear, doing some long needed repairs on my bikes
to get them tour ready(amazing what I can put off doing when just
riding around locally),and finally after the holiday crazies get off
the roadways hopefully set out on some of these adventures I want to
do early in the new year(or as soon after as I actually feel like it
or more precisely if the past is any guide I will probably be out the
door on my way about half an hour after I finally decide I definitely
want to do a particular trip ,and if I plan it farther in advance I
will definitely not feel like doing it in the planned time frame
though for a longer trip I will give a few more days to get out the
door;)).And I definitely try to keep that spontaneity going during the
trip ,lol.
While I planned to write a trip report for my last trip,a 3 week
recap just seemed too much of a chore given my wordy writing style, but
I now have a digital camera so plan to chronicle as well as take some
photos duing future trips.
