...a North Face propel sleeping bag from REI. The bag is rated at 40
degrees and weighs in at 1lb. 4 oz.
Anyone have any experience with these items?

I have a North Face Propel, probably last year's model, without the
zipper at the bottom. It was advertized at 16 oz but it's 18.88oz with
stuff sack.
It's rated at 40F but don't make any plans in using it below 55F unless
you bring some extra insulation to back it up, like a space
bag/blanket.
By itself, while wearing minimal clothes, it keeps me warm until 55F.
