Hi, I've been happily lurking on this list for a while, and this is about exactly the type of trip I'd like to try. I'm also a trail runner, and I've got in mind a summer trip where I add a basket like this ( http://www.rivbike.com/node/54 ) to my cross bike and carry in there some running shoes and a pack. When I reach the cool mtn trails I'll hide the bike in the woods and go for a run. <<<<
Great idea but do take a good lock to secure your bike to a tree. As I've said many times, "There should be one of three things on your bike at all times; you hand, your butt or a good lock." A cable lock saved my bike one time and it was a good mile from the nearest road.
