Smackdown in Australia...   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #110 of 528 |
Dear all fellow wrestling fans,
As you may or may not know, the end of September will also bring the end of
SmackDown broadcasts for Australia. I for one am devastated by this (and yes
I do know how sad that makes me) but SmackDown is my favourite show on all
of TV and frankly, I don't even know if I feel like watching Raw anymore.
That said, I'm prepared to fight. I called Foxtel (the service provider)
today and they have a recorded message saying that the cancellation is due
to a contractual dispute with the WWE and is out of their control. Now, if
there's one thing I'm
good at it's stirring trouble with the WWE, I do it all the time. However, I
can't do it alone. What I need is for all WWE fans to forward this message
to any other wrestling-based mailing lists you may be a part of (and yes I
am prepared to wear the flak for creating a chain letter, lol). All
Australian fans should go to WWE.com and hold your mouse over where it says
TV, then click on SmackDown. A page with results should come up that says
under the clickable headings 'photos' and 'videos' "What did you think of
SmackDown? Click here to send us your feedback." Click there, log in ot
create an identity and go for
your life. The more people who do this the better the result is likely to be
and if you're not Australian, feel free to go there anyway and have a whine
on our behalf. If you wanna know what I'm saying, I've included a copy of it
with this message.
Help me save SmackDown!
Thanks!
Lyndelle Barry

MESSAGE TO WWE:
I'm writing to register my anger and disappointment at the contractual
dispute that is going to rob thousands of Australian fans of SmackDown
broadcasts. I have been a loyal WWE fan for two years now - I watch every
show, I buy every Pay Per View, whether or not it's against my better
judgement. One month ago you came to Australia, put on a great show, sold
truckloads of merchandise, created an attendance record for Colonial Stadium
and won many more fans and now you're repaying us all by taking away what I
feel to be the better wrestling show, by taking away superstars the likes of
Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Edge, The
Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, Brock Lesnar and the like. I think
that this is absolutely disgusting. What exactly does the first 'W' in WWE
stand for, because if you're perfectly happy to alienate your international
fans, it certainly can't stand for 'World'.
And sure, you're leaving us with Raw, a show that was so bad last week that
I contemplated changing the channel less than ten minutes into the
broadcast, something I haven't done in two years. The only thing that kept
me from doing it was because I want to know about the feuds for the upcoming
Pay Per View, which I probably won't continue to purchase once SmackDown
ends. Throughout Raw I keep telling myself, "don't worry, there's always
SmackDown". Well, now there's not going to be a SmackDown, and I really
don't know if I can go on watching Raw, knowing that all of my favourite
superstars are elsewhere, thus leaving me with
a lesser-rate show. Sure, I'm just one fan, but one fan alienated is one fan
lost. Personally, I have spent more than $500 US on merchandise, action
figures, etc. But if that's revenue you're prepared to lose, well there's
nothing I can do about. I just hope you'll reconsider, since SmackDown
really is the highlight of my week and my WWE experience.
Lyndelle Barry
